In the season 2 finale of This Is Us we were moved to tears as we saw Katie girl finally let go of some of her sadness of losing the most amazing father, Jack! How many of us have been waiting for this moment? The moment for her to finally let go and stop being so sad all the time! Jack visited Kate in her dreams and I feel he was trying to send her a message that all would be okay. But will it? In the flash-forward memories of the show we saw that Toby will continue to battle depression. Just like Toby told his parents he could be the messed up one not just Kate. We also saw a flash forward moment where Randall told Tess, his oldest daughter, that it was time to go see “her.” What? Oh my goodness, so many speculations.
The truth is that we are all a little messed up and have issues just like the entire cast of This is Us!
The key is to finding someone that will help you out of the darkness and not abandon you in your time of need. Like Randall said in his speech, it’s about the people you pick, even though you don’t know what the future holds. While we don’t know yet what will happen down the line, for now Kate and Toby are happy.
I wasn’t too crazy about Kevin’s speech but apparently Zoe, Beth’s cousin WAS impressed. We see a flash forward where Kevin and Zoe are on a plane together. Are they just friends or are they going to hook up? I’m excited for that new story line. She said she was a messed up kid when she was younger, full of anger and we know that Kevin comes with his share of baggage so that’s going to be an exciting mix up.
We also see Rebecca worry about how Katie girl always misinterprets her mom’s actions or words. We’re reminded in season 2 finales episode that Jack always made Katie feel special, always showed her love and strived hard to not make her feel like something was wrong with her. As a mom Rebecca worried about her weight and about her future. Whenever she said anything to Kate, she always took the stand of it being a judgment.
In reality I feel like Kate was unknowingly comparing her mom and dad. Kate wasn’t open to the love her mom was giving her. It caused friction between the mother and daughter, causing Kate to keep an imaginary wall up between herself and Rebecca. However, we finally hear Kate mutter words of appreciation to her mom. A true moment of endearment, we couldn’t help but say awwwww to!
As do all episodes of This is Us, there’s always both, feelings of happiness and then anxiety making us wonder, “What does that meaaaann?”
Toby’s mom says to Deja, that she looks just like her dad. But mama Toby doesn’t know that Deja is a foster/adopted child. Deja could have gone either way with that comment. She could have smiled and felt love in her heart for the family she was blessed with but instead she went down the path to anger. We see her going down that anger path with a bat walking towards Randall’s car. Now you know, Randall loves his car, remember when he told Kevin not to spill any ice cream in it? Yeah, well a whole lot worse went down, didn’t it? What do you think Randall is going to do or say when he sees what Deja has done to his other baby (aka the car)?
Back to the flash-forward where Randall tells Tess it’s time we have to see “Her” and all the what if’s popped into my weary mind! What do you think she’s not ready for? This show has taken us down so many roads it could really be anything. If you think it’s A or B, it’s probably P or R! HA! Is the Her, Deja? Has she gone down a path that lands her in jail? Perhaps what we saw at the wedding was just a little glimpse of all the problems Deja will unleash on the household. Or is it the gravesite of Beth and Randall’s youngest daughter? Why haven’t we seen her in the flash forwards? OR, is it Beth, in a nursing home who has Alzheimer’s and can’t remember anything from her past? GOD only knows. And Dan Fogelman knows too, that crazy talented creator and writer, him! ugh!
Just like in real life, we don’t know what Season 3 has in store for us but we’re all definitely excited for it already and it’s only been 24 hours, dammit Dan!
Now we wait with bated breath. While This is Us Fans released a little sadness after this finale we also gained joy. Despite learning how Jack died we are left with a little warmth in our hearts being able to see Jack, the ultimate father, in the episode looking old and gray. Now we must wait six months for our favorite show to return. But cheers to our passed on loved ones visiting us in our dreams!
