Did you know that Latinos are twice as likely as Non-Latinos to be diagnosed with diabetes? That number keeps increasing year over year. My Grandmother was diagnosed with Diabetes very early on in her life. My Mother is pre-diabetic, along with an estimated 57 million people in the United States. I see how my mother watches what she intakes very carefully. I was raised knowing to be careful with what we eat. However, it isn’t always easy with all the duties we manage, from motherhood to working full time. Convenience plays a big factor in what we choose to eat and drink. That’s why I was excited to learn about Glucerna. I first learned about Glucerna through my family but didn’t realize it was something that could be beneficial to me. One day, while shopping at Walmart, I came upon a display of Glucerna products and learned so much about it.
Not only is it a nutritional drink, recommended by doctors and nutritionists for people with diabetes, but it can also be used by anyone who wants to avoid sugar spikes and is looking for a convenient way to help manage sugar cravings. Glucerna can be used as a meal replacement option. Their shakes and bars have low calories and come in a few different flavors. I tried the Homemade Vanilla flavor and was impressed. It is absolutely delicious. I decided to try adding some yummy berries to give it a spin. The taste was exquisite and satisfying. The recipe is easy as all you need to add are frozen berries.
You can add any combination or all of the ones I used. I found a frozen medley mix in my local markets frozen section. It had no added sugar, was high in fiber and vitamin C. My berry medley mix included:
- frozen strawberries
- blueberries
- blackberries and
- red raspberries
Measure one cup of the frozen berries and grab one 8 oz. bottle of Glucerna’s Homemade Vanilla Flavor shake with CARBSTEADY®. You combine the berries with the Glucerna in a blender and blend for 1 minute. That’s it!
What a simple yet great way to add more fiber and fruit to your diet. Best of all, I could feel the difference, it kept me hunger free for a few hours. I couldn’t wait to share this Berry Glucerna Shake with my family. Especially my mom, who as a pre-diabetic, is always looking for new recipes to incorporate into her diet.
Berries are lower in sugar than other fruits so this was an easy sell to her. I like to keep a health dialog going with my mom, so she knows that I care and to keep myself informed so I can help keep diabetes at bay. If you’d like to try this yummy and easy recipe, you can print a $1 off coupon for any one (1) Glucerna Product. Check out the Steady Ahead video that shows how keeping your sugar in check can be exciting with CARBSTEADY®. Chances are that someone you care about or even love has been struggling with Diabetes. Glucerna has a two week Meal Plan you can follow. Will you try to make this delicious berry shake? Let me know how you like it.
It’s so important to reach for healthy alternatives. I never thought of mixing Glucerna shakes with fruits to make fruit smoothies. Also, it’s interesting to read that Latinos are affected by diabetes more than anyone else. Two of my uncles have been diagnosed in the past 5 years.
Yes Fatima, more and more Latinos are being diagnosed with Diabetes every year. This smoothie is really delicious, If you try it let me know.
Nothing like an easy berry smoothie. Many thanks for sharing your experience with diabetes. #client
