Growing up, I used to listen to R&B almost every day. I loved the lyrics in the songs that told stories, the sweet love songs and music that could take me to another world. When I listen to the R&B of today, the type that is popular on radio, I am disappointed. Not because the songs are bad, because the beats are catchy and make you want to dance, but they are so vulgar. I like to listen to stations on iHeart radio that play old school music and let my kids listen to the music I grew up with. Here are some of my favorites.
Remember the vowel song? The one that we thought was saying, A, E, A E I O U, U and sometimes Y? Well it doesn’t really say that but what a great song to teach the kids their vowels, right? The sometimes Y actually is I sometimes Cry. I literally JUST found this out in 2014 ha! Check out the video below and then scroll down for other oldies but goodies.

And then there’s this classic by Cherrelle and Alexander O’Neale, Saturday Love. Great song for the kids to learn their days. “Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturdaaaayyy Love!”

How about “Crush on You” by the Jets? What a cute little love song. Not lyrics like, “let me pull your panties to the side”, that song “Show Me” by Chris Brown. Ugh.. That song is soo nice until you hear the vulgarity in it, sucks!
And the classic by Chaka Khan, “Ain’t Nobody” is a simple love song. ” Oh! My nights are warm and tender, We stare into each other’s eyes, And what we see is no surprise” Read more: Chaka Khan – Ain’t Nobody Lyrics | MetroLyrics

And the final one I’ll leave you with is Jermaine Stewart’s, “We don’t have to take our clothes off”. I mean really, when you compare it to the lyrics in the song, “lifestlye” by Birdman, you wonder, what in the world’s name is wrong with these rappers and singers of today. I hope someone teaches them to bring it back a hundred notches.
