I attended the Steve Harvey Soar Retreat in Doral, Florida on Saturday October 17th and Sunday October 18th. I was super excited when I was notified that I won a conference pass via www.meunfinished.com. I really wanted to attend this event. I kept picturing myself there and it came to fruition. I’d like to think that I thought it into reality. Steve Harvey has become quite the businessman. A positive force, he uses his influence for inspiration and has created a program called Act like a success. The event was an inspiring gathering of hundreds of women who came together seeking inspiration. While I missed the first day, I did get a super dose of inspiration by the speakers I did get to see on the two days I was there. The speakers I saw were Patrice C. Washington, the Money Maven, Valorie Burton, a best selling author and life coach, Marjorie Harvey, not only Steve Harvey’s wife but fabulous in her own right and Doreen Rainey, Life Coach. Here are my top favorite words of advice I heard at the Soar Retreat.
From Patrice Washington
Have a mindset of a Legacy Maker. Discovering your purpose is the key to unlocking prosperity. Your mindset is everything, whatever you have is because you imagined it. Your roots create your fruits, you have to do the work! Talk to your kids about finances early on.
From Valorie Burton
We often don’t do the things we need to do that lead to success. How is someone’s life better when they cross your path? Failure is an event, how will you use it to succeed in the future? Notice how abundant the blessings are in your life now. Be happy in your difficulties.
From Marjorie Harvey
You must be supportive of each other, don’t pick each other apart. Sometimes you stay in a situation for the lesson. Be organized in your minds, thoughts and day to day action.
From Jolorie Willliams, CEO Creme of Nature
Take Pride in who you are, be proud of yourself. When talking to people, engage by making eye contact.
From Angela Jia Kim, CEO and founder of Om Aroma and Co.
Don’t quit, pivot! Progress is not perfection, mistakes can be your friend. Success is born out of rejection. Love your gorgeous chaos.
From Steve Harvey, Comedian, Talk show host, Best Selling Author and Actor
Logic can take you from A to B but your imagination can take you anywhere. If you want to be happy and successful, you have to do what every other happy and successful person has done, you’ve got to jump. Step off the cliff. In other word, take those chances, the risks, believe in yourself. “Ain’t no elevator to the top, you’ve got to take the stairs.” Stop looking at what you don’t have and take inventory of what you do have, you’d be astonished. Don’t tie your success to another person, people will let you down. Three strategies of successful people are fearlessness, work ethic and faith. Prune your trees, you have to go out and cut off the dead branches. You’ll find that every fear you turn around to face is no where near as fearful as you thought it was.
I’d love to hear which of these words of advice resonate most with you?
Don’t quit, pivot! This jumped out at me, since I just made a life changing change…I have sold Tupperware for 6 years and I am an acknowledged Tupperholic…BUT it is not really making money for me for many reasons. So while I love it, I needed to re-think what Direct Sales line I could go into that is more today, without being too trendy and will have longevity, I will like and make money at…this has been marinating (to use a friend’s great word) around in my brain for a few months and it became apparent that THIRTY-One Gifts was the answer…so I enlisted and we sill see where it goes…So I didn;t quit, I pivoted to a new direction…yay me!
Logic can take you from A to B but your imagination can take you anywhere. This too jumped off at me…I always say that you are only limited by your imagination…and it’s so true. You can be perfectly logical about something, but if it’s not YOU, than what the heck? so thinking out of the box is what I subscribe to now!
Sandie, I love Thirty-one! I wish you the best in this new project! I really loved that, Don’t quit, Pivot as well. Maybe you have to make a detour or find another route, but don’t quit. Same with Imagination…. if you can dream it, you can achieve it! 🙂
